ESPN is giving Peter Schrager his own show. Big Day with Peter Schrager premieres Thursday, September 10, at 2 p.m. ET, an hour-long weekday studio program hosted from New York that will work the day’s biggest stories across the sports world through reporting, interviews and conversations with athletes, coaches and executives.
The show runs from 2 to 3 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays during college football season, with Bussin’ & Pate on Campus holding the Friday 2 p.m. slot, and expands to a five-day schedule once the college season ends. It joins a weekday studio lineup that already includes multiple editions of SportsCenter, Get Up, First Take, The Pat McAfee Show, NBA Today, NFL Live and Pardon the Interruption. Additional guests and recurring segments are still to be announced.
More Than Football
Schrager built his reputation on the NFL, first at Fox Sports and then as an original co-host of NFL Network’s Good Morning Football from its 2016 launch. Big Day is pitched wider than that. ESPN describes a show that mixes major headlines with trends and the human stories behind them across the full sports landscape, with Schrager’s NFL access as the anchor rather than the whole menu.
He joined ESPN on April 1, 2025, on a multi-year deal that put him on Get Up, First Take, The Pat McAfee Show, NFL Live and SportsCenter, and he worked the Monday Night Football sidelines alongside Katie George on the weeks with multiple games. He also hosts The Schrager Hour, a weekly podcast from ESPN and Omaha Productions that launched on September 3, 2025. The podcast and his studio appearances continue alongside the new show, according to ESPN’s announcement of his hiring and the network’s rollout of the new program.
The Year Of The Super Bowl
Big Day lands inside what ESPN is calling its Year of the Super Bowl, the run-up to the network’s first Super Bowl broadcast in February 2027. Schrager has covered Super Bowl week for years from the Fox and NFL Network pregame desks, and a daily afternoon show gives ESPN a place to build that coverage through the fall rather than waiting for the playoffs.
The new show is also a homecoming of sorts. Schrager began his career writing for ESPN.com in 2004 before moving to Fox Sports in 2006, and he has authored two books, Strength of a Champion with O.J. Brigance in 2013 and the New York Times bestseller Out of the Blue with Victor Cruz in 2012. Big Day puts his name on an ESPN program for the first time, more than two decades after his byline first appeared on the site.
A Busy Stretch For ESPN Programming
The launch comes as ESPN continues to absorb NFL Network and its talent under the deal that gave the NFL a stake in the Disney unit, a process that has cost some on-air jobs even as it adds shows like this one. Schrager, whose old Good Morning Football home was part of that network, is one of the more visible faces to have crossed over ahead of the integration.
Big Day with Peter Schrager debuts September 10 at 2 p.m. ET on ESPN, airing Monday through Thursday until the college football season wraps.
