ESPN is going behind the scenes with the WNBA’s newest franchise. The network has greenlit Setting the Tempo, a four-part documentary series chronicling the Toronto Tempo’s historic inaugural season as Canada’s first WNBA team.
A Star-Powered Production
The series carries serious star power behind the camera. Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts executive produces through her Rock’n Robin Productions banner, alongside tennis legend Serena Williams and actor Ryan Reynolds, both of whom hold ownership stakes in the Tempo. The documentary follows the team’s front office, coaching staff, and players as they build a franchise from scratch and navigate the pressures of an expansion season north of the border.
Canada’s First WNBA Team
The Toronto Tempo tipped off their inaugural WNBA season in 2026 as the league’s first franchise outside the United States, marking a major milestone in the league’s international expansion. The team plays its home games at Coca-Cola Coliseum in Toronto, and the franchise’s launch has drawn enormous attention as the WNBA rides a historic wave of growth in viewership and attendance.
