Haunted Mansion Holiday Artist Sculpts Jack Skellington Mug For Trader Sam’s, Out October 20 For $75

Trader Sam's Enchanted Tiki Bar at the Disneyland Hotel

The Jack Skellington mug coming to Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar on October 20 was designed and sculpted by Tim Wollweber, the Disney artist behind the Haunted Mansion Holiday stretching portrait that guests have been staring up at since the overlay debuted 25 years ago. Wollweber shared the first photos of the finished mug on Instagram on Friday afternoon, calling it his piece for the 25th anniversary of Haunted Mansion Holiday at Disneyland.

The idea came straight out of that portrait. Wollweber said he always wanted to know what else was spilling out of the Sandy Claws sack in the painting, and the mug is his answer.

The limited-edition mug arrives at Trader Sam’s at the Disneyland Hotel on Tuesday, October 20. It costs $75 plus tax, and on release day the only way to get one is through a mobile order in the Disneyland app that opens as early as 6 a.m. that morning.

The mug celebrates Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, and it arrives right in the middle of Halloween Time at the resort. Each guest gets one transaction, with a limit of two mugs per order.

What The Mug Looks Like

The mug has a sculpted gray body wrapped in ghostly figures and characters from the film, sitting on a red base that looks like a stitched sack.

Wollweber’s photos show how closely it follows the portrait. On the front, Jack stretches his arms overhead in his Sandy Claws suit while white ghosts rise around him with their arms thrown up, the same pose he strikes in the painting. Around the back, a crowd of grinning, bug-eyed creatures climbs out of the sack and up the sides of the mug. The sack itself wraps the base in red, tied off with rope and covered in stitched patches.

Wollweber has a long history with the overlay. Beyond the portrait, he has designed at least two of the gingerbread houses that fill the mansion’s Grand Hall each season as an associate art director for Disney Parks. He said he plans to share close-ups and some nerdy notes on the mug’s details soon.

This is a limited edition, and orders open at 6 a.m., so set an alarm and have the app open and signed in before then if you want one.

How Ordering And Pickup Work

You place the order in the Disneyland app and choose an arrival window before heading to the resort. Pickup runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on October 20 in the Rose Court Garden at the Disneyland Hotel.

When you arrive during your window, tap “I’m Here” in the app. Once the app tells you the order is ready, check in with a Cast Member to collect your mug.

Only the person whose Disneyland app account placed the order can pick it up. That guest needs a valid ID and must be at least 21 years old.

Free Parking And Missed Pickups

There is a nice perk for the trip. Complimentary parking opens at 8 a.m. at the Pixar Pals parking structure, and you just show the Cast Member at the structure proof of your mug purchase.

Do not miss your window. Disney may cancel and refund orders that are not picked up during the pickup hours. October 20 is an early release, and Disney has not announced when the mug will go on sale inside Trader Sam’s. Last Halloween’s Evil Queen mug later went on sale in the lounge itself, so this one may follow the same path.

If you are planning a Nightmare Before Christmas day at the resort, the mug pairs well with a ride on Haunted Mansion Holiday, which is celebrating its 25th year at Disneyland with Jack Skellington and the rest of the Halloween Town crew taking over the house.

Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar is the small, show-filled lounge on the grounds of the Disneyland Hotel, known for its tiki drinks and its collectible souvenir mugs. For this release, though, the pickup happens outside the lounge in the hotel’s Rose Court Garden.
