Hungry Bear’s New Downstairs Dining Area Looks Finished At Disneyland

The new downstairs dining area at Hungry Bear Barbecue Jamboree looks ready for guests. The tables, chairs, umbrellas, lanterns and fences are all in place on the lower level of the Disneyland restaurant, and crews were pressure washing the ground on Wednesday, October 28.

Five days ago this level was still a construction zone, with a trench of dirt running through it and building materials stacked under the deck. Now it looks like a finished patio. Round tables with wooden chairs sit on new stone-patterned paving, several of them under trees, and green market umbrellas stand closed over a few of the tables. Some chair seats still had protective boards on them while the crew worked.

Planters, Rails And Those Bear Lanterns

The landscaping is in too. New planting beds full of shrubs and ferns line the edges of the patio, framed by a low wooden rail and stone edging. Behind one bed, a wooden fence screens the area from the backstage side, and a double lantern post stands in front of it.

Those lanterns are the same ones that went up last week. As we showed when Hungry Bear’s new downstairs seating got lanterns with bears on them, each one has its own bear scene etched into the glass panel up top and a small bear figure perched on its crown.

The walkway that runs under the upstairs deck has been finished as well, with a stacked stone wall and more planters leading back toward the tables.

The Permit Is Closed

The paperwork points the same way. Theme Park IQ reported Wednesday morning that the permit for the work had been closed out, and said the new first floor seating area might be finished that day.

This project has been running since May, when the ground floor planter was torn out to make room for more outdoor seating. At the time, Disneyland told Mickey Visit the expansion would add more than 80 seats and would be finished later in the summer, so the space is arriving a few months behind that target. Disneyland has not announced when guests will be able to sit there.

What It Means For Your Next Meal

Hungry Bear has stayed open through the whole project, with diners up on the deck while the crews worked underneath. Once the lower level opens, the restaurant will have a second, shadier place to eat right along the Rivers of America.
