Disney+ is expanding its live-action lineup for younger viewers, handing out a pilot order for a live-action adaptation of The Last Kids on Earth, based on the popular book series and animated franchise.
From The Page To Animation And Now Live Action
According to Deadline, the project comes from Gotham Knights co-creators Chad Fiveash and James Stoteraux, who will write and executive produce, with Kevin Tancharoen directing and executive producing. The Last Kids on Earth started as a bestselling middle-grade book series by Max Brallier before becoming a hit animated franchise on Netflix, following a group of kids navigating a monster-filled apocalypse with humor and heart. The live-action pilot order marks a major shift for the franchise as it moves to Disney+ in a completely different format.
A pilot order lets a studio produce a single episode to evaluate tone, casting, and overall execution before committing to a full series, making this an early but meaningful step. Disney+ has increasingly leaned into family and young adult adaptations as part of its broader content strategy.
Part Of A Growing Disney+ Slate
