Marvel’s Wolverine Story Trailer Reveals A World Without The X-Men At Comic-Con

Logan took over Hall H. Insomniac Games used its San Diego Comic-Con panel to debut the story trailer for Marvel’s Wolverine, pulling back the curtain on the world of the PlayStation 5 exclusive ahead of its previously announced September 15, 2026 launch. The trailer caps years of anticipation for the project, which was first announced back in 2021 and comes from the studio behind the blockbuster Marvel’s Spider-Man series.

A World Without The X-Men

The panel’s biggest revelation is that the game takes place in a universe where the X-Men simply do not exist. Instead, Wolverine, Mystique, and Sabretooth operate as Team X, an outfit assembled by Nathaniel Essex to protect mutants from a hostile world. Comic readers will recognize Essex as the man who eventually becomes Mister Sinister, which suggests that this alliance may not stay friendly for long.

Standing against Team X is Bolivar Trask and Trask Industries, the mutant-hunting corporation responsible for the Sentinel program in the comics. Lady Deathstrike also appears as the leader of The Hand, giving Logan a personal rival with her own adamantium claws. Jean Grey features in the story as well, voiced by Krizia Bajos, and the panel spent time exploring the complicated relationship between Jean and Logan. Liam McIntyre voices Wolverine himself, and the actor closed the panel by leading the Hall H crowd in a rallying cry of “Let’s go, Bub!”

A Composer, A Comic, And A Crossover Suit

Insomniac also announced that Emmy winner David Fleming, whose credits include The Last of Us, is composing the score, with a single from the soundtrack titled “Logan” releasing the same night as the panel. Fans attending the convention can pick up a prequel comic at the Marvel booth on the show floor, and players will be able to unlock a Wolverine suit inspired by the upcoming fighting game Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, which held its own panel later in the day.

The September 15 release positions Marvel’s Wolverine as one of the fall’s biggest gaming exclusives, arriving just as Marvel Studios ramps up toward Avengers: Doomsday in December. Marvel has had a massive presence at this year’s convention, with Avengers: Doomsday costumes on display at the Marvel booth all week. With a mature tone, a fresh corner of the Marvel universe, and Insomniac’s track record, September 15 cannot come soon enough for mutant fans.
