Monsters Inc Door Coaster Adds Highly Banked Track And Big Room Supports At Hollywood Studios (PHOTOS)

More track is going in at the Monsters Inc door coaster at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Aerial photos posted Friday night by bioreconstruct show highly banked track for the ride, and another set of aerials posted that night shows supports recently added in the ride’s big room, with track there too. Other posts from that night covered progress on the load area and the building’s outer walls.

The coaster is the headline attraction of Monstropolis, the Monsters, Inc. land taking shape at the park. Disney has said it will be the first suspended coaster at a Disney park and the first with a vertical lift, hoisting riders into the air, just like in the movie, before they zoom into the door vault.

New Supports And Track In The Big Room

The big room is starting to fill in. New supports have recently gone up in the space, and some track has already made it inside. Earlier Friday evening, bioreconstruct also shared a photo of high-banked curves of track recently placed for the coaster, though that caption does not say which part of the ride they belong to.

A different section of the building is stacked in layers. Track runs at ground level, a service floor sits above it, and above that is the floor for the first show scene, where the doors will fly through, turn left and head into the big room. Workers were finishing a newly poured concrete floor on that scene level, and steel sheets make up the first layer of the roof.

In early September, we reported that track could already be seen inside the door vault as the building rose. Now it is showing up in the big room as well.

Where The Ride Begins

The load and unload areas are taking shape on the side of the building that faces Monstropolis. In the load area, vertical lift mechanisms will raise sets of doors to near the curved ceilings. From there the doors swiftly move forward and the ride is underway. It is the same lift-off moment Imagineers previewed in an animatic when they unveiled the load area in 2025.

Outside, blue panels have recently gone onto the walls of the gravity building, and new electrical equipment at ground level is covered in steel sheets to protect it from dropped objects.

On Saturday morning, bioreconstruct followed up with an aerial video of the coaster and Monstropolis, including a look at track staged near EPCOT. On Friday, the account had also photographed track in a staging yard ready to be transferred to its location inside the ride, so there are still pieces waiting to head into the building.

What Comes Next

Disney announced at D23 in August that parts of Monstropolis will open to guests in 2027 while work continues on the door coaster, so guests will be able to explore some of the land before they can ride. Disney has not given the coaster an opening date.
