The second half of the Disneyland Esplanade security checkpoint canopy is on its way. Posts for the other side of the canopy started going up on Tuesday, October 27, and by the end of the day crews looked to be done setting the rest of them in place from ground level.
Here’s today’s Disneyland Esplanade security checkpoint progress update! If you look closely you’ll notice a few posts have gone up for the other half of the canopy. By the time I left today it looked like they’d finished installing the rest of the posts (from ground level) so the other half of the canopy could be up by the end of the week! pic.twitter.com/x6DRZWcnSO

If the pace holds, the rest of the cover could be up by the end of this week, finally giving the new checkpoint a roof from one end to the other.
What The Checkpoint Looks Like Now
From above, the finished half of the canopy is the same light blue that went up last week, stretching along the walkway beside the construction fence. The other side is still a work zone. Lumber, equipment and supplies are spread across the ground, plastic sheeting covers part of the site, and the area is walled off from guests with tall construction panels.
When the blue first went up, it was fair to wonder whether it was only temporary, since the current Esplanade checkpoints sit under darker green covers. Then the new checkpoint canopy at the Disneyland Hotel turned out to be the same light blue, which makes it look like the color is here to stay.
How We Got Here
The new checkpoint is going up on the east end of the Esplanade, on the site of the old ticket booths. Disneyland is shifting east security screening there so work on the rest of the Esplanade can keep moving, and the last two ticket booths on that side came down the week of October 12.
Frames for the checkpoint started rising earlier in October, and on October 23 the first half of the checkpoint got its blue canopy. Now the second half is catching up.
What It Means For Your Visit
Disney has not said when guests will start screening at the new checkpoint. Until then, guests coming in on the east side still go through the existing screening area, while construction walls still surround the new checkpoint. Check Disneyland’s park page for hours before you head out, and give yourself a little extra time at security while the work continues.
We will keep watching the Esplanade and share the next update as the second half of the canopy goes up.
