Spider-Man: Brand New Day is breaking records before a single ticket is torn. According to Deadline, the Sony and Marvel Studios sequel has posted the best first-day advance ticket presales of any film in five years, and easily the strongest of 2026 so far.
The No Way Home Benchmark
The last time the industry saw first-day presale numbers like this was Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021. That film accumulated an estimated $78 million in total advance sales before its December opening, then posted a $260.1 million domestic debut, the second-best opening ever behind only Avengers: Endgame. Brand New Day’s first-day haul also tops Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which went on to open at $187.4 million in 2022.
Fandango confirmed the film is its biggest first-day ticket pre-seller of the year, surpassing Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu, Project Hail Mary, and even The Odyssey, and now ranks among the ticketing service’s top 10 first-day pre-sellers of all time.
Why This Number Matters
The context makes the record even more impressive. Brand New Day opens July 31, just two weeks after Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, and it will do so without IMAX screens, which remain committed to Nolan’s epic through an exclusive window. Historic demand without the genre’s favorite premium-format booster suggests genuine, broad audience appetite rather than a formats-driven surge. Despite Tom Holland’s on-set injury during production and the crowded summer corridor, the film never moved off its date.
Presales are an early signal rather than a final verdict, but the company this film is keeping tells the story: the only comparable first-day performances in recent memory belong to films that opened north of $185 million.
Is This The Last Dance?
Director Destin Daniel Cretton, asked whether this is Holland’s final outing as Peter Parker, gave the perfect non-answer: “Is there ever a last Spider-Man? Everyone should go to this movie as if it’s the last Spider-Man.”
Spider-Man: Brand New Day picks up four years after No Way Home, with Peter living anonymously after erasing himself from the memories of everyone he loved. It opens in theaters July 31, 2026.
