Star Wars racing is officially back in the spotlight. Star Wars: Galactic Racer took center stage at Summer Game Fest this month with a brand-new story trailer and extensive hands-on previews, appearing alongside new footage of Star Wars: Zero Company for two major Star Wars gaming updates in a single showcase, according to Laughing Place.
What Is Star Wars Galactic Racer?
Galactic Racer is a high-stakes racing adventure developed by Fuse Games, the British studio founded by veterans of Criterion’s Burnout and Need for Speed teams, and published by Secret Mode in partnership with Lucasfilm Games. First revealed at The Game Awards in December 2025, the game evokes the spirit of the beloved podracing sequence from The Phantom Menace and the classic 1999 game Star Wars Episode I: Racer, a cult favorite that has left the Star Wars racing itch unscratched for over two decades.
Set in the New Republic era after the fall of the Empire, the game drops players into the Galactic League, an unsanctioned underground racing circuit born in the lawless Outer Rim. The campaign follows Shade, a lone pilot with a personal grudge, as he climbs the ranks to take down reigning champion Kestar Bool. Players can pilot landspeeders, speeder bikes, skim speeders, and classic podracers across planets including Jakku, Tatooine, and Episode I Racer’s returning snow world Ando Prime, with online multiplayer supporting up to 12 players with cross-platform play.

Zero Company Also Gets New Footage
Star Wars: Zero Company, the turn-based tactical combat game from Respawn Entertainment and Bit Reactor, also received a new trailer at Summer Game Fest. The game features Anakin Skywalker and is scheduled to release on August 27. It represents a different kind of Star Wars gaming experience, emphasizing strategy and squad-based combat rather than action.
A Strong Year for Star Wars Games
The showcase continues what has been a strong year for Star Wars gaming. Between Zero Company‘s August release and Galactic Racer‘s October arrival, Lucasfilm Games is clearly leaning into the medium as a key part of the franchise’s ongoing expansion. Star Wars games have enjoyed a creative resurgence in recent years following the critical success of titles like Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor.
