Luke Skywalker and Spider-Man share a cover in new art for Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles. Marvel revealed new covers and artwork for the crossover comic during its House of Ideas panel at New York Comic Con on Saturday, led by an Alex Ross cover that puts the Jedi and the wall-crawler side by side.
Kevin Smith, who is writing the series, made a surprise appearance at the panel. David Marquez is drawing it, and the first issue arrives in comic shops in January 2027. Preorders are open now at local comic book stores.

A Cover For Every Kind Of Collector
Marquez is illustrating the main covers, which connect to form one larger image. Beyond those, Marvel is rolling out several themed sets of variant covers. Alliance variants pair Marvel and Star Wars characters in unexpected team-ups, while Battle variants pit heroes and villains from both sides against each other one on one, including a Battle cover by Kaare Andrews.
A New Hope variants restage scenes from the 1977 film with Marvel characters in them. Crossover variants have characters swapping weapons, costumes and symbols. Marvel Homage variants recreate classic Marvel covers using characters from both franchises, and Retro variants, including one by Dan Jurgens, take their look from Marvel’s original Star Wars comics.
What Hope Assembles Is About
Hope Assembles is the first crossover ever between the Star Wars galaxy and the main Marvel Comics universe. In the six-issue limited series, a spell shatters reality and Marvel’s heroes watch the events of Star Wars play out on Earth right in front of them. The Avengers and Spider-Man team up with Luke, Leia, Han and Chewbacca, while Doctor Doom throws in with Darth Vader and the Empire.
Smith grew up reading Marvel’s Star Wars comics in the early 1980s and always wanted Spider-Man or Doctor Doom to cross into the saga. “So when the opportunity arose to actually tell that story, nobody had to Force my hand!” he said.
The Clerks and Mallrats director is no stranger to the format, having written comics for both Marvel and DC. Marvel Comics editor in chief Stephen Wacker said fans will see the characters together “in ways fans have been dreaming about for decades.”
Part Of The 50th Anniversary
Marvel published Star Wars #1 on April 12, 1977, and 2027 marks 50 years of A New Hope. Lucasfilm is treating the comic as the kickoff to a year of celebrations that also includes A New Hope returning to theaters in IMAX 70mm on February 19.
