The Germany Train Garden at EPCOT has a new resident, and you need to lean in to find him. Walt Disney Imagineering shared photos of ongoing work on the miniature railway display on August 21, and tucked into one of them, standing outside a dark, gothic looking Tudor building with metallic gold detailing, is Dreamfinder.
The timing is almost too good. Dreamfinder was announced days earlier at D23 on Saturday, August 15, when host Neil Patrick Harris and Disney Experiences chairman Thomas Mazloum revealed that the character will return as part of the reimagining of Journey Into Imagination on the other side of the park. That attraction is years away. The miniature version got to EPCOT first.
It is worth saying plainly that this is a coincidence rather than a plan. As Disney Tourist Blog points out, the team refreshing the train garden has almost certainly been working on it for months and had no way of knowing the D23 announcement was coming. The result is that EPCOT now has a Dreamfinder in World Showcase before it has one in Future World.
What Imagineering Has Added
Disney said Imagineers are working alongside the Walt Disney World Engineering Services Artist Prep team to add new magic to the display, and shared a series of photos showing the work underway. The town square has been partly rebuilt, with repainted buildings, a clock tower and archways modeled on the entrance to Biergarten Restaurant, and a courtyard, gazebo and fountain that now echo the full size Germany pavilion a few feet away.
There is also a construction site, which is the detail everyone has fixed on. Tiny excavators and tiny workers sit behind tiny walls carrying the familiar wording about pardoning our pixie dust while the area is refurbished for your future enjoyment. It is a self aware joke about a resort that currently has a great deal of the full size version.
Elsewhere in the village, a scene from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs has appeared: the Dwarfs’ cottage tucked beside a stream and surrounded by trees, a mine shaft glinting with jewels, and a figure making her way along the rocky path toward the door. Landscaping across the display has been refreshed at the same time.
There Is A DINOSAUR Easter Egg Too
Dreamfinder is not the only character hiding in the landscaping. A miniature Dr. Grant Seeker figure has turned up near the train tracks, in a white lab coat and carrying a dinosaur egg, referencing DINOSAUR at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. That ride ran its last day on February 1, 2026, with DinoLand U.S.A. closing permanently the following day to make way for Tropical Americas. A tribute in a flowerbed in World Showcase is an unusual place to memorialize it, which is presumably the point.
A Display That Was Never Meant To Stay
The train garden sits in the landscaping between the Germany and Italy pavilions, and it exists by accident. Officially the Epcot Garden Railway, it was built for the 1995 EPCOT International Flower and Garden Festival as a temporary installation and proved popular enough that Disney simply left it in place. Thirty one years later it is one of the few things in World Showcase that costs nothing, requires no reservation and has no queue.
The village is modeled on a small Bavarian town, with Rothenburg ob der Tauber the clearest influence, and it is staged as a lived in place rather than a diorama, with townspeople arranged as though going about their day. Three trains run their own routes through the village and out into the countryside, using G scale models from the German manufacturer Lehmann Gross Bahn. A stone footpath called the Romantic Road, named for the real route between the Würzburg and Füssen regions, lets guests walk the length of the display. The vignettes get swapped as festivals come and go, which is how this refresh fits the display’s normal rhythm, even if it is a far bigger overhaul than the usual seasonal dressing.
One Open Question About The Town Square
LaughingPlace noted that the town square portion of the set has previously held elements tied to the interactive games played around World Showcase, including the DuckTales World Showcase Adventure. That game is worth watching. It has been closed for refurbishment for several weeks, and it runs through the Play Disney Parks app, which Disney is retiring on September 16.
Disney has confirmed that Batuu Bounty Hunters survives the shutdown on MagicBand+ and in-land screens, and that Star Wars: Datapad does not. On DuckTales, the company has said it has no information to share. So a scavenger hunt that runs on a dying app is sitting closed while crews rebuild the corner of World Showcase it partly lived in. Disney has drawn no connection between the two, and there may not be one, but the sequence is hard to ignore.
The refresh landed just before the EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival opened on August 27, and the display has already been dressed for it. The garden has picked up its own miniature festival marketplace booths, along with a Ratatouille easter egg, so the tiny construction walls are now sharing the flowerbed with tiny food kiosks while the largest crowds of the fall walk past.
