The Muppets are heading to the Emmys. The Muppet Show earned six nominations for the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards, one of the standout results for The Walt Disney Company on a nomination morning that delivered 125 total nods across the company’s brands and studios.
Six Nominations For The Muppets
The revived variety series picked up a nomination for Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded), along with nods for Production Design for a Variety Special, Picture Editing for Variety Programming, and Writing for a Variety Special. Muppet performer Matt Vogel also earned a nomination for Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance. The haul places The Muppet Show among the more decorated variety titles of the year, sharing space in the pre-recorded special category with the likes of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour film, which streams on Disney+.
A Big Morning For Disney
Across the board, Disney secured 125 nominations spanning ABC, FX, Hulu Originals, Disney Television Studios, National Geographic, and the Walt Disney Studios. Disney+ and Hulu accounted for 109 of those nods, while ABC led all broadcast networks. Marvel notched a milestone as Yahya Abdul-Mateen II earned the studio’s first-ever nomination for a performance in a comedy series for Wonder Man, and Star Wars: Visions landed an Outstanding Animated Program nomination.
Looking Toward September
Other Disney highlights included Abbott Elementary’s fifth consecutive Outstanding Comedy Series nomination and Jimmy Kimmel Live’s 15th straight nod for Outstanding Variety Series.
