Vacation Fun is coming back to Disney’s Hollywood Studios on September 27, ending a closure that will have run exactly seven weeks by the time the Mickey Shorts Theater turns its projector back on.

The theater has been used for an Annual Passholder magnet distribution for about a month so far
Disney has not put out a standalone announcement about the return. The reopening date instead surfaced in the theater’s own operating hours, which now list a 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. schedule for September 27 where the day before still reads as unavailable. The attraction’s page on the Walt Disney World website continues to carry the original notice, which says the show is temporarily closed as of August 9 and is planned to reopen later this year.
Why The Theater Closed In The First Place
Disney gave no reason when it pulled the show on August 9. Two days later the purpose became obvious. The theater and its post show room were converted into the pickup point for the Kermit the Frog Annual Passholder magnet, one of a trio of Muppets themed passholder giveaways running at Walt Disney World. That magnet distribution is scheduled to wrap on September 24, three days before the theater is due to reopen, which lines the two dates up neatly.
During the pickup window the post show space stopped being a photo area and started being a merchandise floor. Guests who walked in expecting the life sized cartoon backdrops found registers instead.
What Vacation Fun Actually Is
Vacation Fun opened in March 2020 alongside Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, and the two have always worked as a pair. The railway drops guests inside a Mickey Mouse cartoon. The theater sits them down and shows them several.
The roughly ten minute original short follows Mickey and Minnie as they pack for a trip and reminisce, with new animation stitched around clips from the Disney Channel shorts series. Panda-monium, Potatoland, Yodelburg, Croissant de Triomphe, Entombed, Dumb Luck, Al Rojo Vivo, Couples Sweaters and Outback at Ya! all turn up. The short is exclusive to Hollywood Studios and has never been released anywhere else, which is a large part of why it still draws a line on a hot afternoon.
The seats are upholstered to look like Mickey’s red shorts. The post show area builds full size versions of scenes from Yodelburg, Potatoland, Entombed and Panda-monium for photos.
A Busy Month For Hollywood Studios
The September 27 return lands in a stretch of change for the park. The Magic of Disney Animation reopens on September 14 with Olaf Draws, Off the Page, Drawn to Wonderland and a theater presentation, and construction on the Monsters Inc door coaster has kept the skyline behind Echo Lake busy all summer. Vacation Fun coming back is a smaller item than any of that, but it restores an air conditioned sit down break in a part of the park that has had its share of construction walls this year.
Guests planning a late September visit should still treat the date as provisional until Disney updates the closure notice on its own page. Newly posted hours have moved before, and the notice sitting above them has not been revised yet.
