Walt Disney World is under a Heat Advisory again today, Friday, July 10, the second straight day of a brutal Central Florida heat wave that is pushing feels-like temperatures as high as 110 degrees, and the extreme conditions are continuing to change how the resort operates.
A Second Straight Day Of Advisories
The National Weather Service issued the Heat Advisory for Orange and Osceola counties, home to Walt Disney World, along with several surrounding Central Florida counties. Like Thursday, the advisory runs from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., with heat index values expected to reach up to 110 degrees again. According to WDWMAGIC, the dangerous heat is expected to hold through the weekend, so guests should not count on much relief before Monday.
Portable Fans Arrive For Cast Members
The resort has taken a new step to protect the people who work in the heat all day. According to Blog Mickey, Walt Disney World has begun placing portable fans at Cast Member locations around the parks, giving performers, attractions hosts, and outdoor Cast a way to cool down between shifts as the heat index climbs. It is a small but telling sign of how seriously the resort is treating this stretch of weather.
Entertainment Adjustments Continue At Magic Kingdom
The heat wave has reshaped the entertainment lineup for days now. Mickey’s Magical Friendship Faire, the castle stage show that was repeatedly shortened over the July 4th weekend, remains on a full hiatus that is expected to run through July 14. The Disney Adventure Friends Cavalcade has also stayed adjusted, with fully costumed characters like Genie, Stitch, Marie, Timon, and Baloo moved up onto floats while face characters such as Merida, Pocahontas, Moana, and Raya take over walking duties along the route. Face character costumes allow far more airflow, making the route safer for performers when temperatures spike.
Guests visiting this weekend should drink plenty of fluids, take frequent breaks in air conditioning, and prioritize indoor attractions during the peak afternoon hours. Every Walt Disney World quick service location offers free ice water, and guests are allowed to bring their own water bottles into the parks.
The heat arrives during an otherwise busy stretch for the resort, where Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party dates are already selling out months ahead of the fall season. We will keep an eye on conditions as the heat wave continues through the weekend.
