Mickey Mouse paid a visit to the original Declaration of Independence this week, and the photos are exactly as delightful as they sound. With America’s 250th birthday approaching, Disney sent its most iconic character to the National Archives in Washington, D.C., for a once-in-a-lifetime photo opportunity alongside the 1776 document.
Why Mickey Visited The National Archives
The visit is part of Disney’s broader celebration of America’s 250th anniversary. Mickey Mouse has been a symbol of American optimism and creativity since his debut in 1928. Placing him beside the Declaration of Independence feels fitting for a milestone this big. Few brands are as intertwined with the American story as Disney, and the America 250 celebration is a natural moment to lean into that connection.
Disney shared photos of Mickey posing alongside the historic document as part of the lead-up to the America 250th celebrations happening across Disney Parks and on ABC later this month.
How Disney Is Celebrating America’s 250th Birthday
The National Archives visit is one piece of a much larger Disney celebration. A two-hour ABC primetime special called Disney Celebrates America: The Pursuit of Happiness airs June 29. The special uses Main Street U.S.A. and Tomorrowland as backdrops for stories about American innovation, history, and tradition.
Walt Disney World is also rolling out patriotic programming across the resort. Expect patriotic lighting on Spaceship Earth, Voices of Liberty performances, the return of the Electrical Water Pageant, special character experiences, and limited-time food offerings. The celebrations are planned around the Fourth of July period and beyond.

A Milestone Worth Celebrating
America’s 250th birthday is a rare occasion, and Disney is treating it as such. The combination of park activations, a primetime ABC special, and moments like Mickey’s Declaration of Independence visit shows how seriously Disney is taking the celebration. It is the kind of event that only comes around once, and Disney plans to make it memorable.
