Encanto 2 Is Not In The Works, But Its Producer Is “Always Here For It”

Fans hoping for Encanto 2 will have to keep waiting. Yvett Merino, the Walt Disney Animation Studios executive who produced Encanto, says there have been no discussions about a sequel, though she would love to make one.

Merino was asked about it while promoting Disney’s next animated film, Hexed. When The Direct asked whether there had been any talks about developing an Encanto sequel, she answered plainly.

“No, but I’m always here for it,” she said. “‘Encanto’ is the first film that I produced, and it really holds a very special place in my heart.”

Merino pointed to the film’s focus on a Latino family as part of why it matters so much to her. “So anything that has to do with the world of ‘Encanto,’ I’m in for,” she said.

The Casita Is Coming First

Rather than a movie, the next stop for the Madrigals is Walt Disney World. Merino went straight to it.

“What I’m really excited for now is the casita that’s opening up in Florida in the parks,” she said. “They’re building a whole casita and an attraction there. I’m excited for that. But anything ‘Encanto,’ I’m there for.”

That casita is part of Tropical Americas, the new land under construction at Magic Kingdom, where an Encanto attraction is planned alongside the land’s other projects. One of Disney World’s biggest quick-service restaurants is already taking shape there. Disney is targeting 2027 for the land but has not announced an exact opening date.

Why Fans Keep Asking

Encanto opened in theaters in November 2021 and took off after it arrived on Disney+ that December. “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” climbed to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and the Madrigals have been everywhere since, from merchandise to the parks.

Disney Animation has gone back to several of its recent hits, which is part of why the Encanto question keeps coming up. For now, Merino’s answer is simple: no sequel talks yet, and nothing ruled out.

Merino has said similar things before. She told The Direct in 2023 that the studio would keep looking for ways to keep the world of Encanto alive through other stories and the parks, and the Magic Kingdom attraction is one way that is now happening.

In the meantime, Merino’s own focus is Hexed, the next original feature from Walt Disney Animation Studios.
