The Saja, the nomadic lightsaber masters created for Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, were back on Batuu this week. Five of them staged a lightsaber fight demonstration and a hands-on lesson in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios for an in-universe celebration called Founder’s Day, three years after the Starcruiser made its final voyage.
The appearance was posted to Instagram by @jtheodorebeard, whose caption names the full group. Saja Tycer and Saja Kade led the fight demonstration and the lesson that followed, with help from Saja Nova, Saja Kaia and Saja Skala. “Hearts were full to burst on Batuu; the galaxy has missed the stewards of the Force,” the post reads. It has drawn more than 2,000 likes and more than 100 comments.
A Private Night On Batuu
This was not a regular-hours offering. The Saja appeared during a private evening at the park: Gartner reserved all of Disney’s Hollywood Studios for attendees of its IT Symposium/Xpo on Tuesday, October 20, from 8 to 11 p.m., promising entertainment, rides and food. Founder’s Day was the Black Spire Outpost side of that night. Banners reading “Founders Day” in English and Aurebesh hung from the raised platform where the demonstration took place, and the five Saja wore matching blue tunics, gray wraps and red sashes.
The demonstration ran as a two-person duel, red blade against green, before the hands-on lesson. Afterward the whole group lined up at the base of the platform for photos with lit sabers in green, red and blue.
Who The Saja Are
The Saja were written for the Galactic Starcruiser, the two-night Star Wars hotel that ran at Walt Disney World from March 2022 to September 30, 2023. On board the Halcyon they led the lightsaber training session and roamed the ship between scheduled events. In the story, they are not necessarily Force-sensitive themselves but can sense the Force in others and help draw it out, which is how a guest with no training ends up holding a lit saber by the end of the lesson.
They did not disappear with the hotel. Disneyland Paris brought the Saja back for a walk-up lightsaber experience in Discoveryland from May 4 to May 24, 2025, the first time the characters had appeared in a theme park. The Founder’s Day appearance puts them back in the land they were designed to connect to, a short walk from Docking Bay 6 (Docking Bay 3 until March), where Starcruiser guests once arrived on Batuu. The Starcruiser hotel building is being converted into offices for Walt Disney Imagineering, and Bob Chapek’s memoir blames Bob Iger for the closure.
What It Means For Regular Guests
For now, nothing has been announced. Founder’s Day was a one-night event for a corporate group, and Disney has not said whether the Saja will appear during normal operating hours at Galaxy’s Edge. The characters have now been revived twice in 18 months, once in Paris and once in Florida, so the costumes, choreography and performers are clearly still available to the parks. Lightsaber fans visiting Hollywood Studios today can still build their own at Savi’s Workshop, which added new Protection and Defense hilts and blade effects earlier this month.
