Coven Academy Is Coming Back For Season 2 At Disney+ And Hulu

Jordan Leftwich as Sasha, Malina Weissman as Briar and Ora Duplass as Tegan in Coven Academy

Coven Academy is getting a second season. Disney renewed Tim Federle’s witch drama on Monday, a little more than three weeks after the first season arrived on Disney+ and Hulu, and the numbers behind the decision are strong.

According to Disney, the first season has racked up 20.3 million hours of viewing worldwide in its first three weeks on Disney+ and Hulu. The free first chapter that Disney posted on TikTok, Instagram and YouTube has drawn more than 30 million views on top of that, Deadline reports.

A Hit With Teens And Their Parents

The show was the No. 1 streaming series among teens ages 12 to 17 over its premiere weekend and landed in the top five among all viewers. It also turned into a family watch. Nielsen data shows half of the teens watching and nearly two-thirds of kids ages 6 to 11 were viewing alongside an adult.

That fits how fast the series caught on. Just days after launch, Coven Academy was the No. 1 show on Disney+ in 63 countries, including the United States.

What Season 1 Was About

The series follows three teenage witches and their warlock classmates at an elite boarding school for magic, where power is currency and secrets can get you killed. Caught between ancient supernatural wars and forbidden romances, the coven has to decide how far it will go to protect its city and itself.

Malina Pauli Weissman leads the cast as Briar, with Malachi Barton as Jake, Jordan Leftwich as Sasha, Ora Duplass as Tegan and Louis Thresher as Ollie. Tiffani Thiessen plays Miss Graves, and Devon Sawa guest stars as Mr. Cole.

Federle, who created High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, created the show and executive produced the first season with Darren Swimmer, Todd Slavkin, Amanda Row and Bronwyn North-Reist. It comes from his Chorus Boy Productions in association with Disney Kids & Family.

Where To Watch And What’s Next

Season 1 premiered on Freeform on October 1 and is streaming on Disney+, Hulu and Freeform On Demand. Anyone who hasn’t started yet can still watch the first chapter free on YouTube before committing to the rest.

Disney hasn’t said when production on Season 2 will begin or when new episodes will arrive. It also hasn’t shared which cast members are returning.
