Percy Jackson Season 3 footage made its debut in Italy on Friday. Stars Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries and Aryan Simhadri took the stage at Lucca Comics and Games with co-creator Jonathan E. Steinberg and executive producer Dan Shotz, and the unseen footage they promised to bring drew a loud reaction from fans.
The loudest moment came from Percy himself. “Zeus sucks!” he says in one of the clips, which drew a wild roar from fans at Lucca’s Teatro Moderno movie theater, Variety reports. Another clip showed Thalia, played by Tamara Smart, fighting a monster in an underground car park.
A Bigger War And A Real Villain
Season 3 adapts Rick Riordan’s The Titan’s Curse, with Percy, Grover and Annabeth and their fellow campers at Camp Half-Blood up against the Titan Atlas, played by Holt McCallany.
“Season 3 is really, really big,” Steinberg said. “I think the story that we’ve been hinting at for two seasons about the bigger war is now starting to become real. And we’re going to meet our first real bad guy.”
Shotz promised more of everything. “Bigger monsters. We’ve got titans. We’ve got gods. And this season, we’ve got all the Gods,” he said. That includes new faces on Olympus, with Kate McKinnon as Aphrodite, Ming-Na Wen as Hera and Hubert Smielecki as Apollo.
The Cast On Growing Up With Percy
The show’s young stars have grown up alongside their characters, and Scobell admitted the mythology sometimes follows him off set. “I remember the other day, I was in class and I was not really paying attention. And someone said something about the minotaur, and I lifted my head up and freaked out for a second,” he said.
Simhadri was excited about Grover finding company in the Hunters of Artemis. “It’s such a nice change of pace for him to get to be able to find a kindred soul and be able to talk about the things that he cares about with someone who understands it as well as he does,” he said.
Jeffries said Annabeth’s role is bigger than it is in the book, and tougher. “This season, she’s very much more independent since she has to rely on herself. You can see how much she really only thinks about survival,” she said.
When Season 3 Premieres
Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 3 premieres November 20 on Disney+, and it will release two episodes every week. Fans who missed Lucca have three weeks to catch up on the first two seasons before the Titans arrive.
