Live-Action Moana Releases New Original Song Along The Way

Disney has released a brand-new original song from the live-action Moana soundtrack, and it features a trio of voices that spans both the animated original and the upcoming film. “Along The Way” is written by Lin-Manuel Miranda and performed by Auli’i Cravalho, who voiced Moana in the 2016 animated film, Catherine Laga’aia, who stars as Moana in the live-action, and Dwayne Johnson, returning as Maui.

The song gives fans their first taste of the expanded musical landscape of the live-action film ahead of its July 10 theatrical debut. Miranda, who wrote all the original songs for the animated Moana, returns to the franchise with this new track. Here it is:

Two Moanas, One Song

One of the most striking elements of “Along The Way” is the collaboration between Cravalho and Laga’aia. Cravalho, who originated the role of Moana and whose voice became synonymous with the character, joins the new live-action star for a moment that bridges both versions of the story. It is a meaningful nod to the animated original while firmly establishing Laga’aia as the face of this new chapter.

Johnson’s return as Maui in both the song and the film is equally exciting. His comedic chemistry with the character has been a fan favorite since the original, and hearing all three voices together on a new Miranda composition is a genuine treat for Moana fans.
