Tom Holland: Spider-Man Brand New Day’s Main Villain Is Still A Secret And One MCU Character Still Remembers Peter Parker

Tom Holland is on the promotional trail for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and he just dropped two major teases at once. Speaking to press in Berlin on June 22, the star confirmed that the film’s primary villain has not been revealed yet anywhere, and that exactly one person in the MCU still knows that Spider-Man is Peter Parker.

On the mystery villain, Holland told reporters that the antagonist at the center of the film is still very much a secret and is unlike anything seen in a Spider-Man movie before. That is a bold claim for a film that already has a crowded villain roster including Tombstone, Scorpion, Ramrod, Boomerang, Tarantula, and The Hand. Whatever is lurking underneath all of that remains under wraps, and apparently has not leaked despite the film being just weeks from release on July 31.

One Person Remembers

Holland also addressed the fallout from No Way Home’s memory-erasing spell, confirming that one MCU character is the exception to the rule and still knows that Peter Parker is Spider-Man. He did not reveal who that person is, but fans have already started speculating. The trailers for Brand New Day feature both Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk and Jon Bernthal’s Punisher as key players alongside Peter, with the Hulk in particular being one of the more commonly guessed candidates given their shared screen time in the marketing.

The setup mirrors some of the most effective storytelling beats from the earlier Holland trilogy, where Peter’s isolation and secret identity were central emotional drivers. Knowing that one person holds the truth about who he is could be a major source of either support or conflict across the film’s story.

New Scenes Added to the Film

Holland has previously revealed that Brand New Day recently completed additional photography to expand the film’s humor and deepen a villain plotline. He described the reshoots not as a fix but as adding finishing touches to a film that already works, calling the extra material the icing on the cake. Director Destin Daniel Cretton oversaw the additional work.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day opens in theaters on July 31, 2026. The film is set four years after the events of No Way Home and marks the return of Holland’s Peter Parker in a solo adventure built around a new chapter of his life in the MCU.
