Aerial Photos Show Otters, Waterslides And Giant Birds Taking Shape At Lakeshore Lodge’s Wetlands Pool

The pool at Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge is taking shape. A new set of aerial photos from bioreconstruct shows waterslides going up, otter figures lying in a splash pad and big bird sculptures at a bridge over the lazy river in The Wetlands, the resort’s main pool courtyard on Bay Lake.

The series of posts, shared Tuesday evening, walks across the whole courtyard. bioreconstruct dated his overview shots of the site to September 18, so at least those show the courtyard about a month ago. In the wide view above, waterslide construction fills the center, the otter figures sit in shadow to the right, and the bird theming stands across the lazy river at a bridge. Together the photos show how the pieces Disney described back in June fit together on the ground.

Otters, Birds And Slides

Large otter characters rest on their backs in a splash pad, with small waterslides worked into the theming around them. Giant otters were one of the big reveals when Pardon Our Pixie Dust previewed Lakeshore Lodge in August, and otter figures are now part of the courtyard itself.

On the other side of the water, large bird figures stand at a bridge, and new landscaping is going in along the lazy river. bioreconstruct points out that the same birds appear on the resort’s concept model, which is now on display in the Walt Disney Presents gallery at Hollywood Studios.

Waterslide construction sits near the center of the courtyard, with more slides tied into the otter area. Disney’s plans call for a spiral slide into the main pool, plus splash-and-slide features at Otter Springs, the otter play area.

What Disney Has Planned For The Wetlands

Disney has laid out The Wetlands as a set of connected spaces inspired by the line “the heron and the otter are my friends” from Pocahontas’ “Colors of the Wind.” Otter Springs is the water play area where kids can splash and slide, and Heron Shores is a play space built around climbing. The Daydream River lazy river carries guests through the recreation area, and Lakeshore Lagoon is the zero-entry feature pool with a spiral waterslide. A separate leisure pool and whirlpool spa at Cypress Point, on the other side of the resort, will look out toward the Magic Kingdom fireworks.

Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge opens July 1, 2027, and reservations opened to all guests on October 8.
