FX has renewed American Horror Story for Season 14, so the anthology is not going to stop at 13 after all. The news landed on Tuesday, October 20, a little more than a week before the Season 13 finale airs on October 29.
FX last renewed the show in January 2020, with a three-season order that carried it through Season 13, and with no renewal on the books, many fans expected Season 13 to be the last. Instead, Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk’s show now has its first new pickup in almost seven years, as Deadline reported.
Season 13 Gave FX A Reason To Keep Going
The renewal follows a strong run for AHS: 13. Its premiere was the biggest streaming debut the show has ever had, landing on Nielsen’s Streaming Top 10 and giving Murphy the biggest launch of any of his shows on Hulu and Disney+.
Season 13 was built as a reunion. It brought back a long list of franchise favorites, including Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett and Gabourey Sidibe. Lange’s return came with a few stories of its own, including her complaint that FX was too cheap to pay for cars home from the set.
There is no word yet on a theme, a cast or a premiere window for Season 14. FX has not said whether any of this year’s returning stars will stay on for another round, and the network has not shared a production timeline.
How To Watch The Rest Of Season 13
Season 13 has three episodes left. Episodes 11 and 12 air together this Thursday, October 22, and the finale follows on Thursday, October 29. New episodes start at 9 p.m. ET/PT on FX and are available on Hulu beginning at 9 p.m. PT, so West Coast viewers get them at the same time either way. Anyone who has fallen behind can catch up on Hulu, which carries the full season so far along with the earlier installments.
A Long Run On FX
American Horror Story premiered in 2011 and is already the longest-running hour-long series in FX’s history. It has picked up more than 100 Emmy nominations and 17 wins along the way, including acting trophies for Lange, Bates and James Cromwell.
Each season tells a new story, often with familiar actors in new roles. Over the years that has meant a murder house, a coven of witches, a traveling freak show, a haunted hotel and the end of the world itself.
The October 29 finale is no longer the end of American Horror Story. The show is coming back for at least one more season.
