Moana Bundles Up For Winter In The Disney Princess Cavalcade At Disneyland Paris

Moana is dressed for colder weather at Disneyland Paris. Her new winter outfit debuted in the Disney Princess Cavalcade at Disney Adventure World on Tuesday, October 20, swapping the sleeveless top she has worn since summer for long sleeves and a warmer look on the Motunui float.

ED92 Magic, which covers Disneyland Paris, spotted the change during Tuesday’s cavalcade and posted photos and video of Moana riding in the new costume.

What Moana Is Wearing Now

The new look keeps Moana’s colors but covers up. She now wears a long-sleeved cream top under a short red-and-white patterned cape with red trim over her shoulders. Her pendant necklace is still there, along with a red sash and her red patterned skirt.

Compare that with the version guests have seen since the cavalcade opened in July. In the summer costume, Moana dances in a sleeveless cream top, a red patterned skirt and raffia anklets.

The dancers who travel with her got new winter costumes too, according to ED92 Magic.

Built To Run Through Every Season

A seasonal change was always part of the plan. The Disney Princess Cavalcade runs year-round, and costume designer Isabelle Lemarié told Disneyland Paris News that her team picks fabrics that are not too warm in summer and keep performers warm in winter, “because a cavalcade transcends the seasons.” More layers are added as the temperature drops.

Lemarié wanted the Moana unit to look handmade, with raffia skirts, raffia bracelets with sewn-on shells and macramé necklaces inspired by the film. Hair and makeup designer Jordan Ribeiro matched the performers’ flower crowns to the costumes in shades of pink, yellow and orange. Disneyland Paris says its creative costume team designed every costume in the cavalcade, and all of them were made in France. The kites carried by Moana’s companions alone used about 394 feet of fringe that was handcrafted, frayed and sewn.

The cavalcade debuted on July 24 and travels along the shores of Adventure Bay several times a day. Here is how it looked when it debuted:

Rapunzel, Moana, Raya and Tiana each ride a float themed to their story, with Moana’s recreating her home island of Motunui. Midway through, the princesses step down from their floats, and Moana teaches guests a few moves inspired by traditional Pacific Island dance.
