Iron Man is looking for a princess. Marvel Comics released the first look inside Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles #1 on Tuesday, and the preview pages drop Marvel’s heroes right into the opening scene of the 1977 film, from the Tantive IV to a line of stormtroopers.

Kevin Smith is writing the six-issue series and David Marquez is drawing it. The first issue goes on sale January 13, 2027, according to ICv2.

What The Preview Shows

The first page plays almost exactly like the movie. C-3PO and R2-D2 rattle down a corridor of the Tantive IV as the ship’s main reactor is shut down, and rebel troopers take aim at the door while the Empire gets ready to board.

Then the Marvel Universe shows up. Iron Man bursts in through a wall of fire and greets the stunned rebels with “May the Force be with you.” The Human Torch flames on in the middle of the blaster fire.

The third page brings the Empire to Earth. A Star Destroyer slides over the New York City skyline before heading into space, where the Devastator’s tractor beam catches the Tantive IV. When stormtroopers march aboard, Captain America’s shield is waiting for them.

The last page ends in a big splash of Captain America, Black Widow, the Thing, Thor, the Invisible Woman and Black Panther charging the stormtroopers, with one hero asking whether they have a name for “these canned hams” in the Star Wars movie.

Darth Vader Gets The Infinity Gauntlet

The preview also spotlights Rafael Albuquerque’s variant cover, first shown earlier this month. It puts the Infinity Gauntlet on Darth Vader’s hand, all six Infinity Stones glowing. The cover is part of the Crossover variant set, where characters from one franchise pick up the other’s weapons and symbols.

Marquez drew the main cover. The variants include Alex Ross’s Alliance cover, which teams up Luke Skywalker and Spider-Man, plus a Kaare Andrews Battle cover, a Cory Smith A New Hope cover, a Dan Jurgens Retro cover and a Matteo Lolli foil cover.

The First Star Wars And Marvel Crossover

Hope Assembles is the first crossover between the Star Wars galaxy and Marvel’s main universe, known to comics fans as Earth-616, with the events of the original Star Wars film playing out in front of Marvel’s heroes and villains. It is part of the run-up to the 50th anniversary of A New Hope in 2027, the same year Marvel’s original Star Wars #1 turns 50.
