Bob Iger walked into Disneyland on Sunday morning and found his name on Main Street. In a private ceremony held before park opening, the former Disney chief executive was honored with a personalized window above the main entrance to the Emporium, overlooking Town Square, hours before he was inducted as a Disney Legend at the Honda Center.
New Century Builders, Chief Architect
The window presents Iger as the head of a turn of the century firm called New Century Builders, with a plaque identifying “Robert A. Iger, Chief Architect.” The name reads as a nod to the resorts, lands and acquisitions built on his watch, from Shanghai Disneyland to the Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm and 21st Century Fox acquisitions that reshaped the company across his two runs as chief executive, from 2005 to 2020 and again from 2022 until this March. The tradition of honoring key contributors with decorative windows on Main Street, U.S.A. was started by Walt Disney himself, and it remains one of the highest honors the company gives.
The Dapper Dans Set The Tone
The morning ceremony featured the Dapper Dans performing the Sherman Brothers’ “There’s a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow,” with Mickey Mouse joining Iger and chief executive Josh D’Amaro at the unveiling. D’Amaro told a story from Disneyland’s 70th anniversary last year, when Cast Members turned out in force before the gates opened to take a group photo with Iger, and thanked him for shaping the company and strengthening the bond people feel with Disney.
Iger reflected on standing in Town Square thinking about the park’s more than 70 years of guests and Cast Members and the legacy of the people represented in the windows around him, saying “I never could have dreamed this was possible.” The full remarks are on the Walt Disney Company newsroom.
A Big Weekend For The Park He Now Overlooks
The timing carries some poetry. The window went up two days after Disney announced that Disneyland’s Tomorrowland reimagining is officially the resort’s next major project, meaning the man now permanently installed above Town Square gets a front row view of the construction era ahead. Iger stepped down as chief executive in March, remains a senior advisor and board member through the end of 2026, and joins window honorees like longtime attractions executive Dick Nunis, Imagineers Marc and Alice Davis, and songwriters Richard and Robert Sherman on the street where every Disneyland visit begins. The unveiling came on the final morning of D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, hours before the Legends ceremony where Robert Downey Jr., Harrison Ford, Diane Sawyer, Ellen Pompeo and Al Michaels paid tribute to him at the Honda Center.
