Disney Confirms The Grand Floridian Gingerbread House Will Not Return This Holiday Season

One of Walt Disney World’s most beloved holiday traditions has reached the end of the road. Disney has officially confirmed that the life-sized gingerbread house will not return to the lobby of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa for the 2026 holiday season, and reports indicate the display has been permanently retired.

Disney’s Official Statement

In a statement posted to the resort’s holiday webpage, Disney said guests can expect “elegant seasonal decor and festive offerings, along with new miniature gingerbread displays featured throughout the Resort,” explaining that the traditional large gingerbread house will not be offered this year “to help keep the lobby flowing smoothly for Resort Guests.” According to Disney Tourist Blog, Walt Disney World has confirmed the retirement is permanent rather than another one-year pause.

The End Of A 25-Year Tradition

The towering gingerbread house had anchored the Grand Floridian’s Grand Lobby every holiday season since 1999, taking months of planning and doubling as a working seasonal bakery where guests could pick up fresh gingerbread treats. The display celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2024, which now stands as its final appearance. It was absent in 2025 due to the lobby refurbishment that added The Perch lobby bar, and many fans assumed the pause was temporary until this week’s confirmation.

What Happens Next

In its place, the Grand Floridian culinary team will create new miniature gingerbread displays positioned throughout the resort, with details expected closer to the holiday season. Disney has indicated the change is unique to the Grand Floridian, meaning fan-favorite displays like the gingerbread carousel at Disney’s Beach Club Resort and the BoardWalk Inn gingerbread house are still expected to return. It joins a season of change across the resort, alongside updates like the Coral Reef Restaurant’s upcoming refurbishment at EPCOT.
