Disney Golf Unveils AI-Carved Grumpy Statue At Magnolia Golf Course

Disney Golf just unveiled a brand-new Grumpy statue at the Magnolia Golf Course, and the story behind how it was made is just as interesting as the statue itself. Walt Disney Imagineering created the piece using an AI-powered stone-carving robot, marking a fascinating intersection of technology and Disney craftsmanship. Disney shared the full reveal through its official Walt Disney World press release.

The statue marks the entrance to “Grumpy’s Gauntlet,” the redesigned four-hole finishing stretch at Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course, standing next to the tee box on hole No. 14 ahead of the demanding run through holes 15, 16, and 17. Standing roughly six feet tall and carved from Carrara marble, Grumpy scowls atop a rock alongside his famous warning from the film: “Mark my words, there’s trouble a-brewin’!”

AI Meets Imagineering

The use of an AI-powered stone-carving robot represents a new frontier for Walt Disney Imagineering. Rather than replacing artistry, the technology works in collaboration with human artists. The project took about a year, with the robotic arm carving the marble over several days before veteran stone carvers stepped in by hand to add the finishing details that make the final piece authentically Disney.

Look closely and you will find some hidden gems: Grumpy carries a 7 iron as a nod to his fellow dwarfs, along with a replicated golf ball featuring the dimple pattern from 1937, the year Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs premiered. Grumpy, of course, is one of the seven dwarfs from that classic animated film, and his expression makes him a fitting mascot for the most challenging stretch of holes on the course.

About Magnolia Golf Course

Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course is one of the flagship golf destinations at Walt Disney World Resort, known for its classic layout and signature Mickey Mouse-shaped sand trap. Every hole carries a Disney movie-inspired name and a quote from either Walt Disney or legendary golfer Arnold Palmer. The pro shop now stocks dedicated Grumpy’s Gauntlet merchandise too, including hats, flags, golf balls, and other accessories.

The statue is the latest example of Imagineering blending new tools with old-school craft, much like the work going into The Magic of Disney Animation coming to Hollywood Studios this summer.
