Downtown Disney security screening at the north entrance is getting an upgrade. Disneyland has filed a new permit to remodel the security area at the north end of the Downtown Disney District, replacing the temporary setup that guests have passed through for years.
What The Permit Calls For
According to the filing, the project includes a new 3,000 square foot area covered by two canopies, along with new security fencing and gates. The existing fencing and prefabricated tents will be removed as part of the work. The permit entry describes the project as site work for the north entrance area development.
A Nicer Welcome For Downtown Disney Guests
The north entrance to Downtown Disney serves guests arriving from the Mickey and Friends and Pixar Pals parking structures, making it one of the busiest pedestrian corridors at the resort. The current security checkpoint relies on temporary tents that have long felt like a placeholder, so permanent canopies and fencing should bring some much needed shade and a cleaner look to the arrival experience.
The remodel is the latest in a long line of improvements across the shopping and dining district. Downtown Disney has been in the middle of a multi-year transformation that has brought new tenants, new architecture, and new dining, including the recently revealed Gordon Ramsay at The Carnaby, which is preparing to open its doors soon.
Disneyland has not announced a construction timeline for the security area work, but permits like this one typically precede visible activity by a matter of weeks. We will keep an eye on the north entrance as the project moves forward.
