A New Look for Central Plaza
Disneyland Paris has a new reason to linger in Central Plaza. The park has installed a fresh set of Disney character topiaries in one of the resort’s most iconic gathering spots, and they are exactly the kind of detail that rewards guests who slow down and take it all in. Per the official Disneyland Paris announcement, the new greenery brings a splash of color and Disney magic to the plaza while offering a charming new backdrop for photographs.
What’s New at Central Plaza
The first topiary to arrive is a colorful rendering of the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland, already installed and on display. A second topiary inspired by Tick Tock the Croc from Peter Pan is coming over the following weeks, rounding out this initial wave of character additions to the plaza’s greenery. The new figures replace the Gardens of Wonder, the kinetic character sculptures introduced for the park’s 30th Anniversary in 2022, which Disneyland Paris has said will return in the future at Disney Village.
According to Disneyland Paris, the topiaries are the result of a multidisciplinary collaboration between Walt Disney Imagineering Paris, the resort’s Horticulture team, and the Entertainment Workshops. Virginie Debray, Producer at Walt Disney Imagineering Paris, described the effort as a way to bring creative vision to life while ensuring it was achievable, working hand in hand with the Horticulture team on the landscaping and with the Entertainment Workshops to craft designs that truly do justice to the Disney characters.
A New Kind of Topiary for Disneyland Paris
What makes these topiaries particularly interesting is their style. Rather than traditional all-green sculpted hedgerows, the new figures blend plant material with colorful non-growing accents for the faces and details, similar in approach to the character topiaries seen at EPCOT’s International Flower and Garden Festival. It gives the figures a more vivid, expressive look that photographs beautifully and stands out in the plaza environment.
Disneyland Paris has a rich history of topiary artistry, from the Fantasia Gardens near the park entrance to the hedge-lined paths of Alice’s Curious Labyrinth in Fantasyland. These new Central Plaza additions extend that tradition into one of the most heavily trafficked areas of the resort.
