Disney’s first original anime-style series is officially getting a second season. Dragon Striker has been renewed for Season 2, with the announcement made during the show’s panel at Anime Expo in Los Angeles alongside a first-look image of the returning Knights.
The Knights Return In Early 2027
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Season 2 will debut in early 2027 across Disney+ and Disney XD and will run 11 episodes. The new season finds the Knights facing broken friendships, buried secrets, and an ancient evil as they fight to reach the Banner’s Helm final and risk everything for victory, raising the stakes established in the show’s action-packed debut.
A Fast Rise For Disney’s Anime Experiment
The renewal comes less than a month after the series premiered, a remarkably quick turnaround that reflects its strong reception. Dragon Striker debuted on Disney XD on June 9 before arriving on Disney+ and Hulu the following day, and quickly became one of the platform’s most-watched new series in the United States. The sports fantasy follows farm boy Key, who discovers he may be the legendary Dragon Striker and joins goalkeeper Ssyelle on a scrappy team at Kal Asterock, an elite school where students wield a magical energy called Tama.
The Creative Team Comes Back
Award-winning composer Kevin Penkin, known for Made in Abyss and Star Wars: Visions, returns to score the new season, once again recorded in Japan with an 80-piece orchestra. The series is produced by French studio La Chouette Compagnie in association with Disney Television Animation, with co-creators Sylvain Dos Santos and Charles Lefebvre leading the international team. The voice cast includes Akshay Kumar, Rebecca LaChance, Yeukayi Ushe, Waylon Jacobs, and Evanna Lynch. All of Season 1 is streaming now on Disney+ and Hulu, and with the platform’s growing slate that also includes the live-action Last Kids on Earth pilot, Disney’s investment in younger audiences shows no signs of slowing.
