Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party opens at Magic Kingdom on Friday, August 7, and Disney’s published weather and refund terms for the event spell out an uncomfortable pairing. Rain will not cancel the party, and the three offerings most guests buy the ticket for can be cancelled anyway.
Rain Does Not Stop The Party
Attractions may temporarily stop operating during inclement weather, which typically means heavy rain or lightning in the area. Indoor attractions stay available so guests have somewhere to wait out a passing storm. Outdoor entertainment is a different matter, and it is subject to modification, delay or cancellation. That covers Mickey’s Boo-to-You Halloween Parade, Disney’s Not-So-Spooky Spectacular fireworks and the outdoor stage shows, including the Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular at Cinderella Castle Stage. Trick-or-treat trails are expected to keep running through bad weather, so candy collection continues even on a night when the parade never steps off.
The Refund Rules Have Not Changed
Disney’s published terms for special event tickets state that tickets are nontransferable and nonrefundable, that entertainment may be cancelled due to inclement weather, and that no refund is offered when it is. Those same terms list every attraction, experience and event element as subject to restriction, change or cancellation without notice. None of this is new for 2026, and none of it is softened anywhere else in Disney’s event material. The value of stating it plainly is that it reaches ticket holders before opening night rather than after a washout.
A Sold Out Opening Night Raises The Stakes
Party tickets run from $119 to $229 plus tax depending on the night. Opening night sold out back in July, and several other dates went with it, so a guest whose evening gets rained on cannot simply shift to another party. August is also the heart of thunderstorm season in Central Florida, when afternoon and evening storms are routine rather than unusual.
Full Cancellations Are Rare
Disney has scrapped party nights outright, but historically only when a hurricane threatened the resort. The September 26, 2024 party was cancelled ahead of Hurricane Helene, with Disney citing the forecast and the impact on its outdoor entertainment, and guest tickets refunded. The October 10, 2024 party was cancelled ahead of Hurricane Milton, with tickets refunded again. That is the meaningful distinction: when Disney calls off an entire party, money comes back, and when a storm simply eats the parade and fireworks on a night the party still runs, it does not.
Short of a storm on that scale, the event runs. Guests should plan on getting to Magic Kingdom whatever the forecast says, then watch the My Disney Experience app for operational updates as the night goes on, since showtimes and closures are posted there first.
Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party runs on select nights from August 7 through October 31. The event is held from 7:00 PM to midnight, and ticket holders can enter Magic Kingdom starting at 4:00 PM.
