Disney’s multibillion dollar bet on gaming is getting a spotlight at D23. The Disney Entertainment Showcase, taking place Friday, August 14 at 7:00 p.m. at the Honda Center, will offer a preview of what is coming across Disney’s games for the first time, according to Disney’s programming announcement, and reports suggest that details on the Disney x Epic Games universe could be among the reveals.
What The Showcase Promises
Disney’s announcement says the showcase will offer an “exclusive preview of what’s coming next across Disney’s movies, television, games, and live stage productions.” The explicit inclusion of games is notable for a presentation that has traditionally centered on film and streaming announcements from Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, and Walt Disney Animation. Disney has not named Epic Games in the official event details, but multiple reports point to the long awaited Fortnite Disney universe finally getting a public update at the event.
Disney announced its $1.5 billion equity investment in Epic Games in early 2024, with plans to build an all new games and entertainment universe connected to Fortnite. Since then, Disney worlds and characters have steadily expanded inside Epic’s ecosystem, and fans have been waiting for a fuller picture of what the persistent Disney universe will actually look like. A Honda Center stage in front of thousands of fans would be quite the venue for that reveal, and Disney previously used its 2024 Experiences Showcase, which streamed live inside Fortnite, to share news about the partnership.

The Entertainment Showcase kicks off a trio of marquee Honda Center presentations at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, followed by the Neil Patrick Harris hosted Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase on August 15 and the Disney Legends Award Ceremony on August 16.
