Disneyland’s most charming statistic has a new number. The famous population sign atop the Main Street, U.S.A. train station now reads 1,000,000,000, and new photos from Laughing Place show the updated figure proudly on display for guests passing beneath the Disneyland Railroad.
The First Update In More Than A Decade
The sign had read 650 million since 2013, making this jump to an even billion the first change in over a decade. A 900 million figure surfaced earlier this year in the Disneyland Handcrafted documentary, but the physical sign itself remained untouched until this month’s milestone made the round number official.
The update was unveiled during the surprise ceremony earlier this month when Disneyland welcomed its honorary one billionth guest, 8 year old Andres Robles of Arizona, who arrived with his parents expecting a birthday visit and left as part of park history. The family helped reveal the new number on the train station platform alongside Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, the Disney Ambassadors, and Disneyland Resort President Jill Estorino.
A Tradition Dating Back Decades
The population sign has long been one of Main Street’s best details, periodically ticking upward as the resort crossed attendance milestones across Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure since 1955. Reaching one billion just days before the resort’s 71st anniversary on July 17 makes the timing feel especially fitting, and it gives guests strolling under the station one more reason to look up.
