Hollywood Studios Cast Members Sign A Beam For The Monsters, Inc. Coaster

A Cast Member signs a beam for the Monsters, Inc. roller coaster at Disney's Hollywood Studios

Cast Members at Disney’s Hollywood Studios have put their names on the Monsters, Inc. roller coaster. Walt Disney World shared photos this week of Cast Members signing a steel beam for the coaster, keeping alive one of Disney’s favorite construction traditions as Monstropolis takes shape.

The beam is painted black, and by the time the photos were taken it was covered nearly end to end in white marker signatures. Some Cast Members added a little extra, sticking Monsters, Inc.-themed name tags onto the steel, some with Sulley peeking over the top, then writing their names inside.

A Tradition For The People Who Run The Park

Signing a beam lets the people who run a park leave their mark on what is being built there, and now it is the Hollywood Studios Cast Members’ turn with this coaster. Disney also shared a video of the event, featuring Walt Disney World Ambassadors Kylee Withers and Phelicia Blake, who held up the Monsters, Inc. door-shaped name tags Cast Members stuck on the beam.

The photos show the mood of the day pretty clearly. Two Cast Members grin as they snap a selfie in front of the signed beam, and another leans in close to add a name next to a Sulley sticker.

Where The Coaster Stands

The beam is the latest milestone for a project guests have been watching from the outside for months. Recent aerial photos peeked straight into the Monsters, Inc. Door Coaster building, and the exterior of Monstropolis has been taking on its city look piece by piece.

The coaster is a ride through the Monsters, Inc. door vault, the same maze of doors from the film’s big chase scene. Disney has said riders will board their vehicle and then be hoisted into the air, just like in the movie, and that the attraction will bring two firsts for a Disney park: the first suspended coaster and the first vertical lift. Monstropolis itself was first announced at D23 in 2024.

Disney has not announced an opening date for the coaster. Until it does, moments like this beam signing are among the few chances to see the people behind the project marking their progress.

Disney did not say exactly where on the ride this beam will be installed. Wherever it ends up, the names on it will be part of the finished coaster.
