The show is over, but the song survived it. “Horseshoe Stomp,” the original number written for Jessie’s Roundup at Magic Kingdom, has arrived on Spotify and Apple Music, days after the show itself finished its run at The Diamond Horseshoe.
A Song Written For One Room
Jessie’s Roundup: A Rip-Roarin’ Revue opened at The Diamond Horseshoe on May 26 and closed on September 8. It was built for Walt Disney World’s Cool Kids’ Summer celebration, with a Toy Story 5 tie in running underneath it, and “Horseshoe Stomp” was written specifically for the show by Disney Live Entertainment rather than pulled from an existing Toy Story soundtrack.
The number worked as a dance lesson more than a performance. Woody and Jessie taught guests the steps from the stage, and in other sets the guitarist character Dusty Strings led it with Bullseye, with performers coming down off the stage to get children moving. Disney put out a tutorial video of the dance on its own social accounts during the summer, so a fair number of families arrived already knowing the moves.
Park music does not always get a commercial release, so a song written for a limited run summer show turning up on the major platforms is not a given. This one landed after the show had already closed rather than during the run.
What Happens To The Venue Next
The Diamond Horseshoe does not stay dark. The venue returns as a seasonal pop up, and its full menu has already been published, with the pop up opening October 4 and reservations ahead of it. The family style feast that older guests associate with the room is not part of the current plan.
Jessie’s Roundup displaced the venue’s usual food service for the whole summer, so the October return is the room going back to what it normally does rather than a new concept arriving.
The Toy Story 5 Thread
Woody and Jessie’s summer looks, which they wore through the run, were themselves a preview of the film, and both characters debuted those outfits earlier in the year before the show opened. Cool Kids’ Summer built a good deal of its programming around the same connection.
Toy Story 5 remains the reason a great deal of this existed in the first place, and the song is now the most durable piece of it.
