Jim Cummings Reshares Fan Outrage Over His Disney Legends Snub Hours After The Ceremony

Voice actor Jim Cummings, the longtime voice of Winnie the Pooh and Tigger

Jim Cummings spent the hours after Sunday’s Disney Legends ceremony making his feelings known without typing a word of his own. The voice actor’s verified Instagram account reshared a string of fan Stories blasting Disney for leaving him out of the 2026 class, including one that tagged the company directly and read, in part, “Come on @disney.”

The reposts landed less than a day after Disney closed out D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event by inducting eleven new Legends at the Honda Center in Anaheim. The Ryan Seacrest hosted ceremony honored Chris Berman, Jerry Bruckheimer, Susan Egan, Eric Goldberg, Anne Hathaway, Bob Iger, Kim Irvine, Dwayne Johnson, the Jonas Brothers, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Alan Tudyk, a slate Disney announced back in the spring and celebrated as the company’s highest honor. Cummings, who has voiced Winnie the Pooh and Tigger for decades, was not on it, and his followers noticed.

The Reposts Did The Talking

One Story Cummings shared, from the account @nwdisneycouple, called it “still baffling” that Johnson, Iger, the Jonas Brothers and Miranda received the honor before he did.

Another, from @darkshadowyoutube, ran down his signature roles and called the omission “unbelievable.”

A third, from @kaylacstanley, labeled the situation “an absolute travesty” and ended with a plea in all caps to give him the award.

A fourth, from @amandakitty15, argued he has made “so many characters” nostalgic for generations of fans.

A fifth, from @bmart_95, said the fan was happy for the honorees but insisted “this man deserves this and more” while tagging both Disney and D23.

Cummings added no commentary of his own to any of them, but a verified account resharing five separate posts about its owner’s snub is a statement all by itself.

The Case Is Not Hard To Make

The frustration writes its own brief. Cummings has been the voice of Winnie the Pooh since the late 1980s and is the longtime voice of Tigger, Pete and Darkwing Duck. He voiced Ray the firefly in The Princess and the Frog, played Ed the hyena in The Lion King, and famously stepped in to finish Scar’s “Be Prepared” when Jeremy Irons’ voice gave out mid-recording. His work runs through the parks as well, from attraction narration to character audio guests hear every day. Disney’s own bio for his D23 appearances credited him with more than 1,500 characters across roughly 200 films, 134 television series and 175 video games, plus two Annie Awards and the Winsor McCay Award for lifetime contribution to animation.

The timing sharpens the sting. This year marks the 100th anniversary of Winnie the Pooh, the character Cummings is most identified with, and Disney had him working this very event, booking him for three separate D23 panels over the same weekend the company decided its Legends class could go on without him. Susan Egan and Alan Tudyk were both recognized for voice work in this class, so the category clearly was not the obstacle.

Fans Saw This Coming In March

The backlash did not start Sunday. Within days of the class being announced in late March, a fan launched a Change.org petition asking Disney to name Cummings a Legend, and his wife Margaret appeared during a WonderCon Anaheim panel that same week encouraging fans to sign it. The campaign has simmered for months on TikTok and X, and the ceremony itself turned that slow burn into an open flame. The Jonas Brothers walked out of the same weekend with a Legends award and a 45 city reunion tour announcement. The man who has carried the Hundred Acre Wood on his back for nearly four decades walked out with nothing but the fans in his corner, and on Sunday night he made sure everyone could see them.
