The galaxy’s favorite bounty hunter is getting the brick treatment. A new animated special titled “LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian” has been announced for Disney+, bringing Din Djarin and Grogu into the long-running line of LEGO Star Wars specials for the first time.
Mando Goes LEGO
Details on the special are still limited, but the announcement, first reported by LaughingPlace, confirms the special is headed to Disney+. LEGO Star Wars projects have carved out a reliably fun corner of the franchise over the past several years, from the nostalgic LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special in 2020 to Terrifying Tales, Summer Vacation, and the alternate-universe romp Rebuild the Galaxy. Turning the streamer’s signature live-action saga into comedic brick-built animation is a natural next step, and the pairing of the stoic Mandalorian with the endlessly meme-able Grogu practically writes its own jokes.
A Big Year For The Mandalorian
The announcement caps off a massive stretch for the character. The Mandalorian and Grogu brought the duo to the big screen earlier this year as Lucasfilm’s first theatrical Star Wars release since 2019, and the film is about to make the jump to home viewing. A LEGO special keeps the characters front and center for families on Disney+ between live-action projects, a strategy Lucasfilm has leaned on successfully with its animated output for years.
No release date or runtime has been announced yet for the special, so stay tuned as Lucasfilm and LEGO reveal more. In the meantime, the duo’s theatrical adventure is nearly ready for your living room, and you can read all the details on The Mandalorian and Grogu’s digital release date.
