Monsters Inc Door Coaster Aerials Show Where Trains Will Rise 40 Feet In Four Seconds, With Track Waiting In The Yard And Scaffolding Off The Glob

The steel box that will hold the Monsters Inc door coaster at Disney’s Hollywood Studios now has a roof over its high floor, its first exterior supports going on, and a staging yard full of manufactured track waiting to go inside. A set of aerial photos and a two-minute aerial video published Saturday show the Monstropolis site from every side, and for the first time the layout of the coaster’s loading area can be read directly off the structure.

Forty Feet In Four Seconds

Disney described the ride’s opening move at D23 in August: trains lift riders 40 feet into the air in four seconds before launching into the show. The overhead photos now show where that happens. Guests board at the left end of the building, in a bay with tall curved ceilings. Trains stay level as they rise the full 40 feet to those ceilings, then launch to the right into the high floor, which is now under a silver roof deck and will hold the ride’s first scene. The middle floor of the structure is the service level, and the ground floor at the right is the queue. The tallest supports in the frame are for the swoop after the launch, and the lower supports mark the unload area.

The floor beneath all of it is finished. A comparison photo from March 27 shows the slab being prepared for its final pour; the completed floor now reads as five layers from the top down, concrete with conduits and footer bolts, concrete, sand, concrete on groomed sand, and pilings. The show building’s skin has started too, with horizontal supports being added along the exterior line on Saturday for the cladding that will eventually hide the steel.

Track In The Yard, Not Yet In The Air

The aerial video circles the entire show building. Two tall grey towers stand in the open bay, red crawler cranes and a long white lattice boom sit on the slab, and lift equipment is spread across the floor, but the layout is still mostly steel frame rather than flying track. The track exists: grey tubular sections and curved coaster spines are laid out in rows in a construction staging yard near the site, along with rust-colored beams on a flatbed. The pieces are visible through the trees from the Disney Skyliner’s EPCOT line, which is currently the closest a guest can get to them.

A separate backstage equipment pad beside the show building is likely the coaster’s air conditioning plant, based on where the matching pad sits next to the Encanto show building at Animal Kingdom, though that is a read of the site rather than anything Disney has labeled.

Scaffolding Off The Glob, Teeth On The Pizza Place

Across the rest of the land, the scaffolding has come off the front of The Glob, the former MuppetVision theater that will host the Welcome to Monstropolis show, leaving the brick clock-tower facade exposed. Scaffold still stands along one side wall, where tooth-shaped trim is being fitted around the window openings. In front of the theater, a circular excavation with concrete posts standing in a curve marks the infrastructure for the fountain at the center of the city. The former PizzeRizzo building, becoming Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza, is wrapped in scaffold and construction cloth; the exterior theming going on is read from the ground as monster teeth, though no finished sign or figure is visible yet. Harryhausen’s, the table-service sushi restaurant, sits at the crossed beams at the center of the site.

Disney has said the city, The Glob show, Harryhausen’s, Archie’s and the Scareporium shop open in 2027, with the coaster following later; everything opening first is on the left side of the aerials and the coaster is on the right. The last time we looked at the site, the door vault was rising with track already delivered inside. Four days later the vault has a roof, the load area has a shape, and the city in front of it is starting to look like a city.
