The Rancho del Zocalo menu at Disneyland has a new look as of Thursday, September 3. Disney Eats revealed six new items and two returning favorites for the Frontierland restaurant, led by a Chicken Tostada Salad, a Mexican-style Shrimp Cocktail and a pair of slushies in horchata and jamaica.
Rancho del Zocalo is one of the busier lunch stops in the park, so a menu shift there tends to land with regulars. The additions lean toward lighter and shareable plates rather than the platters the location is known for. The restaurant opened in 2001 in the space that had been Casa Mexicana, which in turn grew out of Casa de Fritos, the Frito Company sponsored stand that opened in August 1955 near what is now River Belle Terrace and moved to this spot in central Frontierland in July 1957. It is credited as the birthplace of the Dorito.
The New Items
The Chicken Tostada Salad is built on chicken with pico de gallo, sour cream, rice, beans, cotija and guacamole, finished with a lime cilantro-avocado dressing. We got a look at the plate ourselves, and it is a full-size fried tortilla shell packed over a bed of lettuce with two grilled, char-marked chicken breast pieces, a mound of Mexican rice, beans topped with crumbled cotija, and separate scoops of guacamole, sour cream and pico, with the green dressing served on the side in a cup. It eats more like a platter than a salad.
New Nachos pair tortilla chips with beans, a guajillo cheese sauce, house-made and tomatillo salsas, red jalapenos, sour cream and guacamole. The Mexican-style Shrimp Cocktail brings poached shrimp together with tomatoes, red onions, cilantro, cucumber and celery in a spicy cocktail sauce, served with crackers.
For younger guests, a new Kid’s Beef Taquitos plate serves two shredded beef taquitos with a Cuties mandarin orange, applesauce and a choice of small Dasani water or small lowfat milk. On the drink side, the Jamaica Slushy and Horchata Slushy are both new to the location.
What They Cost
Disney’s online menu for the restaurant already lists the new items with prices. The Chicken Tostada Salad is $15.49 and the Nachos are $14.99, both filed under entrees, while the Mexican-style Shrimp Cocktail is $12.99 and sits under appetizers. The Kid’s Beef Taquitos are $8.99, in line with the existing kids’ burrito and quesadilla, and both the Jamaica Slushy and the Horchata Slushy are $8.49, the same price as the Iced Chocolate Cafe. For comparison, the Duo of Chicken Tacos runs $15.49, the barbacoa version $16.49 and the Pollo Asado platter $19.99.
Two Returning Favorites
Back on the menu are the Duo of Cauliflower Tacos at $15.49, a plant-based plate of cauliflower al pastor on corn tortillas with house-made salsa, rice, beans and a lime wedge, and Fresas Con Crema at $7.99, strawberries with sweet cream, for dessert.
The reveal came through the Disney Eats Instagram account. The full standing menu is on the official Rancho del Zocalo restaurant page.
A Busy Season For Disneyland Menus
The Rancho refresh comes in the middle of Halloween Time, which brought its own wave of seasonal items across both parks when it opened in late August. It also follows a smaller August change a few lands over, where garlic naan joined the menu at Bengal Barbecue in Adventureland as the stand’s cheapest bite.
Rancho del Zocalo sits at the far end of Frontierland near the entrance to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and serves lunch and dinner daily. Mobile order through the Disneyland app is available for the location, and the new items should appear there alongside the existing menu. Guests who want the returning cauliflower tacos should note they are the only plant-based entree on the list, and the shrimp cocktail arrives cold and is served with crackers rather than tortillas, a departure for a counter built on tacos, enchiladas and platters.
