Waiting for Soarin’ just got a little more competitive. Soarin’ Across America at Disney California Adventure has added the Soarin’ Challenge Across America, a trivia game created in collaboration with National Geographic that guests access by scanning a QR code in the queue, letting them compete against other players standing in line, according to Theme Park IQ.
How The Queue Game Works
Guests scan a QR code posted in the queue to join a live, 10-question trivia session about the nature and geography of the United States, competing against fellow riders for a top spot on a digital leaderboard, with questions that vary each round. The game, which launched July 16, draws on National Geographic facts and photography, pulling from titles like 50 States, 5,000 Ideas and challenging players with playful state superlatives such as which state is “Most Likely to Reach for the Stars” or “Most Likely to Strike Gold.” The trivia experience first debuted at EPCOT when Soarin’ Across America opened there on May 26, and its arrival at Disney California Adventure brings the west coast queue up to par.
Interactive queue games have a strong track record at Disney parks, from the long-running Play Disney Parks experiences at Space Mountain and Peter Pan’s Flight to the games woven into Smugglers Run’s chess room.
Soarin’ Across America, the patriotic overlay celebrating landmarks across the United States, has been a summer centerpiece at Disney California Adventure since it opened at the park on July 2 as part of Disney’s America250 celebration, and its standby line is a natural fit for a diversion like this.
Small Touches Ahead Of A Big August
Disney California Adventure is heading into a spotlight month, with D23 weekend bringing heavy crowds and the park hosting Disney Princess: The Ultimate Concert Celebration on August 13. Additions that make long waits friendlier, however small, land at exactly the right time.
