Foundation work has started on the new Imagineering buildings at STOLport, the old airstrip beside the Magic Kingdom parking lot. One of the two planned buildings now has a pad laid out with what appears to be reinforcing steel going in, the first sign of the buildings themselves on a project approved almost a year ago.
BlogMickey published new photos of the site, taken from the monorail, on October 14. Most of the large pad is covered in bright yellow sheeting with rebar running across it, and stacks of structural steel sit along the fence nearby, a sign that framing will follow once the slab is in.
What Is Being Built
The project, known as Project K, was approved just before Thanksgiving 2025. It covers two new buildings plus parking and utilities on the north end of the STOLport site.
Disney hasn’t said exactly who will move in, but this corner of STOLport has long served as a base for Walt Disney Imagineering, which for years meant trailers set up around a parking lot. Those trailers are still standing just beyond the new construction.
What Is Happening Next Door
Disney has described Magic Kingdom as being in the middle of its largest expansion ever, and Imagineering has a lot on its plate right next door. Construction on Piston Peak National Park is well underway on the former Rivers of America, with a tower crane now rising over Frontierland, and Villains Land is planned beyond Big Thunder Mountain. Imagineering has already filed for more work on that side of the park, including new construction at a brand-new address next to Haunted Mansion.
STOLport sits just south of the park, a short drive from all of that work, and BlogMickey says both new buildings are likely to serve as support space for construction at and around Magic Kingdom.
Guests won’t see much of it from inside the park, but anyone riding the monorail past the site will have a clear view as the buildings rise over the coming months.
