Palo Drops Its Prix-Fixe Dinner For À La Carte On Every Disney Cruise Line Ship Starting October 22

Dinner at Palo is about to work differently. Starting October 22, Disney Cruise Line will phase out the prix-fixe dinner at Palo, Palo Steakhouse and Palo Trattoria and switch to Palo à la carte pricing, with a menu built from a selection of guest favorites. Instead of choosing a set-price meal, guests will pay for what they order.

Palo is an upscale Italian restaurant found on every Disney ship. For years, dinner there has centered on a $55 prix-fixe menu, with à la carte items also available. Under the new setup, the prix-fixe option goes away and the bill depends entirely on what each guest orders, whether that is a single entree or a full spread of starters, mains and dessert.

When The Change Reaches Each Ship

The switch rolls through the fleet over five days, starting with the Disney Wonder and finishing with the Disney Adventure:

  • October 22: Disney Wonder
  • October 23: Disney Fantasy, Disney Dream and Disney Wish
  • October 24: Disney Magic, Disney Treasure and Disney Destiny
  • October 26: Disney Adventure

That covers all eight ships in the fleet. Disney has not said which dishes made the cut, so guests sailing after their ship’s date will find out when they sit down.

What It Means For Castaway Club Members

The perk for Disney’s most loyal cruisers carries over, now applied only to à la carte dinner items. Platinum and Pearl Castaway Club members, along with guests staying in the same stateroom, can keep using a $55-per-person credit, as Blog Mickey laid out with the ship-by-ship dates. The credit covers dinner only and does not apply to Palo brunch.

Drinks, gratuities and anything that runs past the $55 are still on the guest, so a member who keeps dinner under the credit pays only for drinks and tips, while a bigger order is charged for the difference.

Platinum status starts after 10 sailings and Pearl after 25, the two highest tiers of the Castaway Club. Castaway Club members also get early booking windows when new sailings open, with the top tiers going first, and that window alone was enough for the Disney Believe maiden voyage to sell out during Castaway Club early booking.

Palo Brunch Loses The Member Perk

Brunch is where Platinum and Pearl members feel the change most. Their Palo benefit can no longer go toward brunch, DCL Fan reports, so once the change reaches each ship, Palo brunch, still a $55-per-person prix-fixe, will be paid out of pocket by every guest regardless of Castaway Club status.
