David Krumholtz Explains Why He Missed The 10 Things I Hate About You Reunion On DWTS

Andrew Keegan, Susan May Pratt, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Julia Stiles, Larisa Oleynik and Gabrielle Union on Dancing with the Stars

David Krumholtz was the one 10 Things I Hate About You star missing when the cast joined Julia Stiles on Dancing with the Stars this week, and he has now explained why. In an Instagram video posted the morning after Dedication Night, Krumholtz said he was shooting a film in the Catskill Mountains in upstate New York and could not get to Los Angeles for the live show.

“I would have loved, loved, loved to have been there,” Krumholtz said, as Deadline reported. “Everyone looks so amazing. Julia’s tribute to my dear friend who I miss every single day was amazing and stunning, and I’m so proud of her.”

The Reunion He Missed

Krumholtz played Michael Eckman, the student who shows Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s new kid Cameron around Padua High, in the 1999 Touchstone Pictures comedy. On Tuesday’s episode, Stiles and her pro partner Ezra Sosa danced a contemporary routine to Frankie Valli’s “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” in tribute to Heath Ledger, her late co-star. The routine closed with audio of Stiles reciting the poem Kat reads in the film while she placed a rose before a giant photo of Ledger, and then five of her old castmates walked out: Gordon-Levitt, Gabrielle Union, Larisa Oleynik, Susan May Pratt and Andrew Keegan. We covered the cast’s reunion for Stiles’ Heath Ledger tribute on Tuesday night.

Krumholtz also had some fun at his own expense in the video. “They all look so young still, and it would have been weird,” he said, taking off his beanie to show a bald spot. “Because I shaved my — what’s left of my hair, and then it becomes a whole internet fodder. ‘Oh, look what happened to him.’ I didn’t want that.”

He was quick to add that his hair had nothing to do with it. “But that’s not why I wasn’t there. I would have dealt with it. Anyway, love them all, love you all.”

Stiles Answered Right Back

Stiles replied in the comments on his post with a simple message: “We love you Krumholtz!”

The tribute aired on Dedication Night, when all 10 remaining couples danced for a person or place that shaped their lives. Stiles scored a 36 out of 40 for the routine, and no couple was sent home that night.

Dancing with the Stars airs live Tuesday nights on ABC and Disney+, and episodes stream the next day on Hulu.
