Dripping Water Has Closed Spaceship Earth’s Main Entrance At EPCOT

Spaceship Earth at EPCOT

The main entrance to Spaceship Earth at EPCOT has been closed for several days, and the reason is water. Cast Members at the attraction told Blog Mickey that water drips from the underside of the geodesic sphere, mostly when it rains, and leaves the walkway below it slippery enough to be unsafe. The ride itself is still running. Guests are simply being sent in a different way.

What The Main Entrance Looks Like Now

The usual way in sits right beneath the sphere, under the Standby and Lightning Lane signs. That walkway is now closed off with a strap between stanchions and a small sign reading “Exit Please Do Not Enter.” Blue padded covers wrap the posts beside it, the black ground mats are still down, and a purple “Entrance” flag still hangs from the strap. Streaks that look like water marks run across the bottom of the sphere overhead.

The area around the attraction has been changing this month, with planters and benches cleared away near Spaceship Earth and a temporary entrance in use. The dripping is the first explanation given for why the main walkway was taken out of service.

How To Get On The Ride For Now

The temporary entrance is set well back from the sphere, at the start of a path that runs along the side of the building. An A-frame sign out front splits Standby guests from Lightning Lane guests, and Cast Members are posted there to point people in the right direction. Laughing Place also spotted a Cast Member scanning Lightning Lane guests at the side entry.

Because the new path starts farther out, it is easy to walk past it if you head straight for the front of the ride the way you always have. Look for the A-frame sign and the Cast Members first. The usual safety notice, including the caution for guests who are uncomfortable in enclosed, dark spaces, is posted at the start of that path, which Blog Mickey says is why the entrance sits so far back.

No Reopening Date Yet

Disney has not said when the main entrance will reopen or what fix is planned. Spaceship Earth already has a separate exterior refresh underway, focused on the flat panels along the Project Tomorrow building, and Disney announced a larger reimagining of the attraction at D23 in August. Neither project has been tied to the dripping so far.

Until a fix arrives, the only change is the walk up to the ride. Follow the signs, expect to enter from the side, and leave yourself an extra minute to find the new path.
