New Avengers: Doomsday Teaser Says Three Teams Will Stand As One

Still from the Avengers: Doomsday Stand Together teaser

Marvel dropped a new Avengers: Doomsday teaser on Saturday evening, and its pitch is simple: three teams, one fight. The 30-second spot from Marvel Studios closes on the card “3 Teams Will Stand As One,” and it squeezes in Steve Rogers lifting Mjolnir, the Fantastic Four shaking hands with Wakanda and another round of Ant-Man fumbling the Captain America name.

The official Avengers account posted it with two words, “Stand together,” and a reminder that tickets are already on sale. It lands one day after the World Series spot that put Mister Fantastic on the mound for the ceremonial first pitch, and it brings back one joke from that spot while showing a lot more of the film.

Doom Will Tear This World Apart

The teaser opens on Thor with Mjolnir in hand before cutting to Steve Rogers and Thor reaching for the same hammer as it hangs in the air between them. Thor warns, “Doom will tear this world apart,” over quick shots of Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, then tells the heroes to “team up and stand together” as the title cards roll in.

The “three teams” idea is spelled out on screen. The Fantastic Four meet a line of Wakandan warriors on open sand, with Ben Grimm reaching out for a handshake. Bucky Barnes and the Thunderbolts get a shot of their own. Thor calls down lightning, and Sam Wilson, in his Captain America suit, stands alongside Shang-Chi and Ant-Man.

That last group sets up the joke. With Sam and a bearded Steve Rogers in the same room, Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang tries a “Right, Cap?” and then can’t figure out which Cap he means. John Walker chimes in that he was Captain for a minute, and Scott finally settles on “Captains America.” It is the same running gag from the World Series preview and plays out over a few quick lines.

Steve Rogers Has The Hammer

The final beat goes back to Mjolnir. Steve stands by a window overlooking a city skyline with the hammer in his hand while Thor looks on. Steve asks whether it bothers him, and Thor answers, “You know it does.” Steve last lifted Mjolnir in the final battle of Avengers: Endgame, so seeing it back in his grip is a clear callback.

Chris Evans gets a lot to do in 30 seconds. He shows up early in a dimly lit close-up, again with a grin while Scott struggles, and finally with the hammer. Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Simu Liu, Rudd, Wyatt Russell and Sebastian Stan all turn up as well.

Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Avengers: Doomsday opens in theaters on December 18, with Downey playing Victor von Doom. Tickets are on sale now, and the teaser above is the newest look before the film arrives in eight weeks.
