Disney’s Hexed: First Trailer And Poster Revealed For Walt Disney Animation’s 65th Feature

Walt Disney Animation Studios has released the first trailer and poster for Hexed, an original animated coming-of-age film arriving exclusively in theaters on November 25, 2026. The film is the studio’s 65th animated feature and its first fully original story since Wish in 2023, representing a significant creative milestone for Walt Disney Animation.

Here’s the trailer:

What Is Hexed About?

Hexed follows Billie, a teenage girl described by the directors as impulsive and unconventional, who accidentally unleashes secret magical abilities. That discovery pulls her out of suburbia and into a hidden magical realm called Hexe, where she begins uncovering long-held family mysteries that could reshape the entire world of witches. The story is a coming-of-age adventure grounded in questions of identity and belonging — director Fawn Veerasunthorn described Billie as someone who has always felt miscast in her own life, and the film as the story of what happens when leaving the normal world behind is the thing that finally allows her to understand herself.

Co-director Jason Hand added that Hexe is the place where Billie feels seen for the first time, with her journey tied directly to secrets about her family that have been kept hidden for years.

The Full Cast

The trailer confirmed two new cast members alongside the previously announced leads. Hailee Steinfeld voices Billie. Rashida Jones voices Alice, Billie’s cautious and Type-A mother. Seven-time Emmy Award winner Tracey Ullman voices Ms. Quill, an enchanted feather quill pen who greets Billie upon her arrival in Hexe. And Stephen Fry voices Elias Quire, a magical journal. Both Ms. Quill and Elias serve as guides of sorts as Billie’s journey through the hidden world unfolds — and the casting of Ullman and Fry as enchanted objects is exactly the kind of unexpected creative swing that has defined Disney Animation’s best films.

The Creative Team

Hexed is directed by Fawn Veerasunthorn and Jason Hand, with Josie Trinidad serving as co-director in her directorial debut. The film is produced by Roy Conli and Yvett Merino. The film was first revealed at Destination D23 and later shown to theater owners at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, where footage featured Billie undergoing a comical personality test by a book and quill — including questions about whether she had ever been burned at the stake — before being invited into the world of magic. New details are also expected when the film is presented at the Annecy International Film Festival on June 26, 2026.

Everything Else We Know

The hidden magical realm is called Hexe and is described as a vibrant Renaissance-style village surrounded by large hills. The film was foreshadowed during the end credits of Zootopia 2 with a three-eyed, grinning Cheshire-like creature. The title itself is a nod to the word “hex,” an English synonym for witch derived from the German word Hexe. Hexed opens on November 25, 2026 — Thanksgiving Day — the same release date as Aladdin, A Bug’s Life, and The Good Dinosaur before it, a slot Disney reserves for films it believes in.
