The Endgame Encore Ticket You Buy Decides How Much Doomsday Footage You Get

There are two versions of “Avengers: Endgame Encore,” and how much new footage you see depends on which screen you buy a ticket for.

One version runs about two minutes longer than the 2019 film. The other runs about five minutes longer. Disney has said every screening includes a custom introduction, extra footage and a special end tag, and that IMAX and Infinity Vision auditoriums get an additional “Avengers: Doomsday” sneak peek on top of that. The three minute difference between the two versions is almost certainly that sneak peek.

The numbers come from the British film ratings board, which published exact runtimes on September 14 when it approved the re-release. One cut runs 183 minutes and 3 seconds. The other runs 186 minutes and 14 seconds. The original Endgame ran 181 minutes. The board does not label which version goes to which type of theater, so the split is not spelled out in the paperwork, but it is the only hard figure anyone has put on the difference.

Infinity Vision is a premium screen certification Disney introduced this year. Rather than a projection system Disney builds and installs, it is a set of standards existing large-format theaters can qualify for, and Encore is the first Marvel film to carry the badge.

What Russo Says Is In It

Joe Russo has described the new material as a narrative bridge rather than an alternate cut. “It’s gonna connect the story of the two movies,” he told Fandango. “There’s a natural progression from Endgame into Doomsday, which is also inclusive of all the other stories that have been playing out. I think it’s required viewing for following the story in Doomsday.”

Marvel has not described the scenes itself. Disney’s official 15-title Doomsday watchlist on Disney+ already treats Endgame as required viewing.

The Trailer Broke A Record

Deadline reported that the Encore trailer drew 77 million views in its first 24 hours, more than four times the previous first-day mark for any re-release trailer. The old benchmark belonged to 1986’s “Top Gun,” whose trailer for this past May’s 40th anniversary run drew 19 million. James Cameron’s “Avatar” re-release trailer managed 14 million and “Titanic” drew 13 million.

The spot features real audience reaction footage shot on opening night, April 26, 2019, during the moment the heroes assemble against Thanos.

When You Can See It

“Avengers: Endgame Encore” opens in the United States on September 25, with tickets on sale now. The United Kingdom gets it on October 16. “Avengers: Doomsday” follows on December 18.
