Marvel Comics has announced The Muppets Take the Marvel Universe, a new anthology one-shot celebrating the 50th anniversary of The Muppet Show. According to Marvel’s official announcement, the issue releases September 23 and brings together a stellar creative team headlined by Eisner-winning writer and self-described Muppets super fan Chip Zdarsky and artist Pete Woods, alongside MacKenzie Cadenhead, Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Adam F. Goldberg, Ashley Allen, Kyle Starks, and artists including David Baldeon, Paco Medina, and Mike Henderson.
The one-shot is exactly what it sounds like: the Muppets crashing headfirst into the Marvel Universe. In the flagship story, Rowlf the Dog is kidnapped by the dimension-hopping TV tyrant Mojo to help launch his new streaming service, sending Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie, Spider-Man, Black Panther, Wolverine, and more on a rescue mission. It is the kind of gloriously fun crossover that only Marvel and Disney together could pull off, and the creative team assembled for it reads like a dream lineup for fans of both franchises.
